Visiting a hospital or research center can bring up a lot of questions—What will it look like? Who will I meet? What will happen?

To help, the Québec 1,000 (Q1K) Families initiative has created two short walkthrough videos so participants can see what to expect before their visit to The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital) for an EEG (electroencephalogram) or MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan.

“Our goal was to create a resource that helps participants feel at ease before they even walk through the door. These videos offer a familiarization tool that can make the experience more predictable and comfortable, particularly for autistic and neurodivergent individuals.”
— Noémie Hébert-Lalonde, PhD, Project Lead at The Neuro

What’s in the videos?

Each video walks you through the spaces at The Neuro and explains what happens during the appointment:

The EEG video shows how a special cap helps measure brain activity—like listening to the brain’s “music.”

The MRI video explains how the scanner takes pictures of the brain using magnets, and what to expect during the process.

The videos are clear, easy to follow, and designed for all ages.

These videos are a great resource for anyone preparing for a Q1K visit or considering taking part in the study.

We hope these videos make your visit to The Neuro a smooth and positive experience!
